ROAD TO CHEYENNE

July 12, 2019 Jan & Joe's Travels

If you read my blog, “Touring Rawlins” and remember the 122 miles of nothing, well from Rawlins to Cheyenne was 148 miles of the same nothing except for the towns of Medicine Bow & Laramie.   It’s still beautiful with wide open spaces.

We stopped in Medicine Bow to sample the local flare. . . quaint little town.

The hotel construction began in 1901 and was completed in 1911.  It was built by August Grimm, the first mayor of Medicine Bow, and his partner George Plummer. The hotel is thought to be named for the famous novel written in Medicine Bow,  called the Virginian by Owen Wister.  It provided a place for cowboys and railroad workers to stay while they were in town, but was actually built to serve a much broader clientele. The significance of the hotel rests upon its architecture and its history. The building is massive in size for a town the size of Medicine Bow, which has 284 residents. The hotel has served as a landmark for the town of Medicine Bow as well as a Historic Landmark for the state of Wyoming for nearly 100 years.

Some of the local flare!!

Now for a history lesson!!  You are now looking at the Mexican/US border marker in Medicine Bow.  Mom & I are in Mexico. . . . if we were living in the 1821 time frame.  This was the Mexico’s northern most border prior to Mexican/American War 1846.  All 47 such boundary makers still exist. The border ran from Oregon across Wyoming, then circled down to Louisiana, with Medicine Bow being the most northern.

STILL A LONG WAY TO GO!!!

Stopped for a cowboy breakfast!

Some of the local flare in the Warren AFB Famcamp.

They’re all over the place.

Until Tomorrow!!

LoVe Us!!!
